I have just tried that and it still doesn't work.

Doesn't the $us_url_root take us back to root anyway?

What is "not working"? Where are you ending up? Is there anything in tomfoolery (users/tomfoolery.php) when you perform the login action maybe to suggest you don't have access to the page you're trying to access?
